Carlsbad High alum Julian Sayin threw two touchdown passes for No. 4 Ohio State in a 19-15 road win over No. 5 Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 17.

He left the game with a shoulder injury.

Sayin, a junior quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist last season, completed 15 of 29 passes for 235 yards at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, according to the Big Ten box score. He also threw two interceptions.

His biggest play came on fourth-and-1 early in the fourth quarter. Sayin connected with wide receiver Jeremiah Smith for a 38-yard touchdown that pushed Ohio State's lead to 19-7. His other scoring strike was a 2-yard pass to tailback Bo Jackson with seven seconds left in the first half, capping a 15-play, 80-yard drive.

The win snapped Indiana's 22-game winning streak, the longest in the country, according to Ohio State's official recap. The Buckeyes also ended the Hoosiers' 19-game home winning streak. The game was a rematch of last season's Big Ten Championship, which Indiana won on its way to a national title.

Sayin's day ended when Indiana's Mario Landino hit his throwing shoulder on a sack and forced a fumble in the fourth quarter, ESPN reported. Sayin left the field favoring his arm and later emerged from the locker room in a sling.

"He will probably be out for several weeks," Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said after the game, according to the team's official recap. True freshman Luke Fahey replaced Sayin and went 0-for-2 passing as the Buckeyes leaned on the run to close out the victory.

Day said the bye week gives the coaching staff time to adjust. "When Luke's in there, we just may need to do things just a little bit differently," he said, per ESPN.

Sayin was rated a five-star recruit out of Carlsbad High in the Class of 2024, according to MaxPreps. Entering the Indiana game, he had completed 71.2% of his passes this season for 1,772 yards, 17 touchdowns and two interceptions, per ESPN.

He was not the only local alum in action on Oct. 17. La Costa Canyon graduate Tyler Robles kicked a 25-yard field goal for Washington in a 38-26 win over Purdue, according to The Vista Press.

Ohio State (6-1, 4-0 Big Ten) has a bye before traveling to No. 19 USC on Oct. 31.
