More than 80 local artists are showing work at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery starting Friday, Oct. 23, as Carlsbad brings back its Cannon Biennial Exhibition.
The free show runs through Jan. 3, 2027, at the gallery inside the Carlsbad City Library complex at 1775 Dove Lane. The exhibition's theme is "everywhere home," which the city described as inviting artists to explore what it means to feel at home.
The biennial is resuming after a five-year hiatus, according to the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. Works on display span paint, photography, sculpture and fiber art from dozens of emerging and established regional artists, the Chamber said.
Visitors can meet the artists and cast a ballot for their favorite piece at a free reception Saturday, Nov. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. The winning artist will receive a community choice cash prize courtesy of the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation, according to the Chamber. The dollar amount of the prize has not been announced.
The gallery is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., according to Visit Carlsbad.
The city said additional interactive events will be scheduled throughout the fall, with opportunities to learn about different art styles and create artwork. Residents can sign up for email updates from the city's Cultural Arts team through the city's website.
All cultural arts events and programs carry free admission, according to the city's Cultural Arts division.
