Carlsbad High's freshman football team beat San Marcos 28-13 in an Avocado West league game Thursday, Oct. 15, improving to 6-1 on the season.

The Lancers controlled the home contest against the visiting Knights, according to MaxPreps. San Marcos fell to 1-5 with the loss.

The win gave Carlsbad seven victories in eight games. The Lancers' full schedule on MaxPreps lists their overall record at 6-1-1, reflecting a 3-3 tie at Mission Hills on Oct. 8. The game-page record after the San Marcos win reads 6-1, a difference that appears to stem from how the tie is counted. Either way, the Lancers have lost just once this season, a 13-7 defeat to Cathedral Catholic on Aug. 20 in their opener.

Carlsbad has outscored opponents 219-64 through eight games. The freshman defense has allowed just 16 points across three league contests, including a 26-0 shutout of Torrey Pines on Oct. 1, the 3-3 tie at Mission Hills and the San Marcos win.
