Two Carlsbad High School students have brought Key Club back to campus after a four-year absence caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Junior Sami Felix and sophomore Emilia Kawano lead the revived chapter as vice president and president, with teacher Kristin Allen-Benes as faculty advisor, The Lancer Link first reported. Key Club is a student branch of Kiwanis International, a volunteer service organization.

Felix and Kawano introduced the club at the Sept. 16 Club Fair. "I think even if we're helping in small ways, it can still make a difference," Felix told the student newspaper.

The club plans food drives, clothing drives and volunteer work with local organizations. Members can also attend a Key Club Leadership Conference at Magic Mountain in November.

CHS Key Club meets on even Wednesdays in room 6108. The club posts updates on its Instagram account, @cbadkeyclub.
