Carlsbad High's girls volleyball team swept crosstown rival La Costa Canyon 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 13, to improve to 14-12 on the season.

The Lancers won the away league match in straight sets against the Mavericks, who dropped to 14-17, according to MaxPreps. Set scores were not available.

The victory is Carlsbad's second straight win over LCC this season and gives head coach T. Bloomquist's squad a boost ahead of a home league match Thursday, Oct. 15, against Torrey Pines. First serve is set for 5:45 p.m.

Torrey Pines enters the match 21-5 overall and 7-0 in league play. MaxPreps ranks the Falcons No. 1 in the San Diego Section, No. 3 in California and No. 15 nationally. Carlsbad sits at No. 14 in the CIF San Diego Section Division I rankings and No. 16 in the overall section.

The Falcons beat the Lancers 3-0 on Sept. 29 in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Torrey Pines is led by opposite hitter Parker Herrin, who has 270 kills and 38 serving aces. Setter Emery Gonzales has recorded 692 assists. Libero Lila Green anchors the back row with 262 digs and 285 receptions, while middle blocker Dylan Kupiec has 57 total blocks.

As a team, the Falcons have tallied 931 kills, 178 serving aces and 1,072 digs across 26 matches.

Carlsbad carries a 2-5 league record into Thursday's match but has posted a 5-0 mark in non-league play. The Lancers are 4-1 at home this season, a split that could matter against a Torrey Pines team that is 8-2 on the road.

Both teams have swept La Costa Canyon twice this season. Beyond that, the common-opponent records diverge: Torrey Pines is 2-0 against Mission Vista and 1-0 against Westview, while Carlsbad is 0-1 against Mission Vista and 0-2 against Westview.

La Costa Canyon will look to rebound in a non-league match against San Marcos. The Knights enter that contest at 23-9.
