The Carlsbad Lancers beat San Marcos 3-1 at home Tuesday, Oct. 20, in a Coastal League girls volleyball match that reversed a lopsided loss to the Knights earlier in the month.
San Marcos had swept Carlsbad 3-0 on Oct. 1. This time, head coach T. Bloomquist's squad flipped the result in four sets, according to MaxPreps.
The win improved Carlsbad to 15-13 in league play and 3-6 in Coastal League conference standings, good for fifth place. The Lancers carry a 26-27 overall record on the season. San Marcos sits at 24-10 overall after the loss.
Carlsbad needed the result. The Lancers had dropped three of their previous four league matches heading into the San Marcos rematch. Torrey Pines swept them 0-3 on Oct. 15. Mission Vista beat them 1-3 on Oct. 6. The lone bright spot during that stretch was a 3-0 sweep of La Costa Canyon on Oct. 13.
The Oct. 20 win gave Carlsbad two victories in its last three outings and some momentum heading into the back half of the league schedule.
Carlsbad ranks No. 15 in the CIF San Diego Section and No. 12 in San Diego Section Division I, according to MaxPreps' team page. The Lancers also hold the No. 134 spot in the state rankings, up seven spots.
The Lancers' next match is a home league contest against Mission Vista on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5:45 p.m. Mission Vista enters at 22-13 after beating La Costa Canyon 3-2 in its most recent outing.
