Carlsbad's varsity football team beat El Camino 40-3 on Friday, Sept. 4. The win pushed the Lancers to 3-0 and kept their No. 1 ranking in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) San Diego Section.

The Lancers scored early and never let up. Carlsbad put up 14 points in the first quarter and added 10 in the second to take a 24-3 lead into halftime, according to MaxPreps. El Camino's only points came on a field goal in the second quarter.

The second half was all Carlsbad. The Lancers poured in 16 points in the third quarter and held El Camino scoreless the rest of the way. Neither team scored in the fourth, with Carlsbad's reserves finishing out the game.

Three games, 99 points

Through three weeks, the Lancers have outscored opponents 99-20. They opened with a 35-0 shutout of Oceanside on Aug. 28, where running back Hector Saldana scored two touchdowns, according to The Vista Press. The 40-3 win over El Camino continued the trend.

Carlsbad's offense averages 33.0 points and 358.5 total yards per game through three contests. Quarterback Antonio D'Alessandro averages 164.5 passing yards per game, per MaxPreps season statistics.

Running back Darian Webb leads the ground attack at 107.0 rushing yards per game. Receiver Travis Jeffrey adds 48.0 receiving yards per game.

Defense sets the tone

The defense has been just as stingy, allowing 20 total points through three games. Carlsbad averages 57.0 tackles and 2.5 sacks per contest. Linebacker Thorne Parker anchors the unit with 9.5 tackles per game. Linebacker Dylan Sims leads the team with 2.0 sacks per game.

El Camino dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Carlsbad, ranked No. 13 in California by MaxPreps, hosts the Poway Titans at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11. Poway enters at 2-1 and is ranked No. 12 in the CIF San Diego Section.
