The Carlsbad Lancers JV football team held off Mission Hills 14-13 on Friday, Oct. 9, surviving the closest game of its season to stay unbeaten at 6-0.
The margin: one point.
That was a sharp departure from the Lancers' first five games. Carlsbad had won those by margins of 10, 22, 47, 56 and 14 points, outscoring opponents by a combined 202-53 before the league matchup.
Mission Hills, based in San Marcos, entered the game at 5-1 and fell to 5-2 with the loss, according to MaxPreps.
Through six games, Carlsbad's JV squad has outscored its opponents 216-66. The Lancers are 3-0 at home and 3-0 on the road, sitting at 2-0 in Avocado League (West) play.
The path to 6-0
Carlsbad opened the season with a 23-13 win at Oceanside on Aug. 28, then beat El Camino 34-12 at home on Sept. 4. The Lancers rolled past Poway 54-7 on Sept. 11 and shut out Valley Center 56-0 on Sept. 18. Avocado League play began Oct. 2 with a 35-21 win at Torrey Pines before the nail-biter against Mission Hills.
The 14-13 final was the first time all season Carlsbad won by fewer than 10 points.
