Sandy Scott, a staff player for Carlsbad-based TaylorMade Golf, earned his PGA Tour card for the 2027 season by winning the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Scott, 28, rallied from a four-shot deficit on Monday, Sept. 21, closing with a 6-under 65 on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University Golf Club to finish at 18-under 266, according to the Associated Press. The total broke the tournament's 72-hole record.

It was Scott's first Korn Ferry Tour victory. He won by one stroke over American John Marshall Butler. Barend Botha of South Africa finished third after closing with a 61.

Scott birdied two of his last three holes to seal the win. The result vaulted him from 13th to No. 2 on the Korn Ferry Tour points list with two events remaining, assuring him a spot among the top 20 players who earn PGA Tour cards.

"It's been a weird journey and I'm just so happy," Scott said after the victory, as reported by GolfByTourMiss.

The Inverness, Scotland, native played college golf at Texas Tech University and turned professional in 2022. His path to the PGA Tour was far from smooth. Scott tore ligaments in his right wrist in 2019 and required two surgeries, a stretch during which he questioned whether he would play competitive golf again, according to GolfByTourMiss.

The victory followed a runner-up finish at the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation in Franklin, Tennessee, the week prior. Scott finished 55th in his rookie Korn Ferry Tour season last year.

Scott became the seventh player and first European to qualify for the PGA Tour during the 2027 season. He will join fellow Scot Bob MacIntyre on tour next year.

TaylorMade, headquartered in Carlsbad, celebrated the milestone on X on Thursday, Sept. 24, calling it a season goal achieved. The win marks the second headline for TaylorMade staff players in a week, after Jacob Bridgeman won the Biltmore Championship, as we reported Sept. 20.
