Carlsbad residents can tour a police shooting range, watch a SWAT team in action and learn sidewalk CPR at the city's annual Public Safety Open House on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City of Carlsbad Safety Training Center, 5750 Orion Street. The open house is open to all ages, according to the city's announcement. October is National Crime Prevention Month.

Live demonstrations include a SWAT mission scenario, a police K-9 unit showcase, a fire safety demo, home safety tips and sidewalk CPR instruction. Attendees can also browse displays covering police, fire and public works vehicles, wildfire preparedness resources, crime prevention tips, the police shooting range, Police and Fire Explorers program information and traffic safety exhibits.
