Fourteen blood donors at Carlsbad Village's latest community drive contributed enough to save up to 42 lives, the Carlsbad Village Association said Sept. 28.

The Heart of the Village Blood Drive took place Saturday, Sept. 26, in the parking lot at Barrio Glassworks, 3060 Roosevelt St. The drive, a partnership between the Carlsbad Village Association and the San Diego Blood Bank, ran from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Donors gave 14 units of blood. Each unit can save up to three lives, putting the estimated impact at 42 patients across San Diego-area hospitals. Those donations support patients facing emergencies, surgeries and serious illnesses, according to the association.

Six of the donors gave blood for the first time. The association said first-time donors help strengthen the region's blood supply beyond a single event, because many go on to become repeat donors.

The association acknowledged the September turnout was smaller than past drives. The February 2026 Heart of the Village Blood Drive collected 97 units of blood, enough to save an estimated 291 lives. The association described that February effort as the single largest blood drive in San Diego County that month.

Donors at the Sept. 26 drive received a SeaWorld San Diego Howl-O-Scream ticket, valued at $99, as a thank-you while supplies lasted.

The association said a small group of people can still make a significant difference for patients and families across the region, even at a smaller drive.
