Carlsbad Village families can trick-or-treat at local businesses, compete in a costume contest and play carnival games when Halloween in the Village returns Saturday, Oct. 31.
The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the Village, with earlier hours than in past years, according to Jess Levy of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. Levy announced the event in a Thursday, Oct. 1, post detailing the day's lineup.
The day starts at CalRes Homes, 2691 State St., where the first 250 children will receive a complimentary colorful pumpkin candy bucket sponsored by CalRes Homes.
Costumed kids can then visit participating businesses throughout the Village for treats. Candy stops are marked with a candy corn icon so families can spot them easily. Go Phoenix Sports sponsors the trick-or-treating portion of the event.
Carnival games and bounce house
The Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad, at 3115 Roosevelt St., will host indoor and outdoor carnival games, a bounce house, candy corn and popcorn. There is no entry fee.
Costume contest at Village Faire
A costume contest takes place at Village Faire Shopping Center, 300 Carlsbad Village Dr., with live music and additional trick-or-treating at Village Faire businesses. The Carlsbad Village Association's event page lists four contest categories:
- Most Creative or Spookiest, ages 1–4
- Most Creative or Spookiest, ages 5–8
- Most Creative or Spookiest, ages 9–12
- Most Creative or Spookiest Family or Group
Each winner receives a basket stuffed with goodies and gift cards.
Sensory-friendly option
Lily Field Realty, at 2965 Roosevelt St., will offer sensory-friendly activities and allergy-friendly treats for children who need a quieter Halloween experience.
