Five businesses joined the Carlsbad Village Association, adding two restaurants, a tea lounge, a jewelry store and a massage therapy practice to the downtown group's roster.

The CVA announced the new members on Monday, Sept. 7, alongside 10 renewing members.

Garcia's Mexican Restaurant, at 2968 State St., is the longest-tenured newcomer. Abel and Ophelia Garcia opened the restaurant in 1960, and the family-owned spot has served homemade Mexican dishes in Carlsbad for more than six decades. The family still runs it. The CVA called it a Carlsbad tradition, noting its colorful patio and catering services.

Mantra Raja, at 3050 Pio Pico, serves Thai cuisine and offers catering, private events and cooking classes, according to the restaurant's website. Mantra Sukha Tea Lounge, at 390 Oak Ave., sells loose-leaf teas, herbal infusions, matcha and baked goods. It also hosts art, craft and holistic living classes. The two businesses appear to share an ownership group, based on cross-references on the Mantra Sukha website.

Carlsbad Jewelry Store sells diamonds, engagement rings, wedding rings and fine jewelry and provides on-site repair, according to its website. Women's Wellness Massage Therapy rounds out the five, offering services that include prenatal and postpartum recovery and oncology support, the CVA said.

Ten existing members also renewed. The list includes Knockout Pizza, Docent Brewing, Carlsbad Cookie Company, 264 Fresco, Fresco Cocina, A1 Auto Care, Carlsbad by the Sea Retirement Community, Fabric Investments, Kiln and Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. The CVA also recognized renewing resident member Jo'el Roth.
