Sage Creek's field hockey team put five goals on the board against visiting Helix in a non-league game Monday, Aug. 31, at Sage Creek High School.
The Bobcats fired 26 shots and recorded five assists in the 5 p.m. home contest against the Scotties of La Mesa, according to MaxPreps game data. MaxPreps had not posted a final score as of Sept. 1.
Midfielder Mia Zanuccoli (No. 11) led the scoring with two goals. Forward Maddie Orlando (No. 16) set up teammates with two assists. Forward Moira Lehnerz (No. 8) recorded a team-high eight shots.
The offensive burst came three days after Sage Creek blanked El Capitan 5-0 on Friday, Aug. 28, in Lakeside, according to the team's MaxPreps schedule. The Bobcats entered the Helix matchup at 1-1 after opening the season with a 4-0 loss at Clairemont on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Helix came in at 2-2 overall. Both teams carried 0-0 league records heading into the non-league contest. MaxPreps ranked Helix No. 16 in the CIF San Diego Section entering the game.
Through their first two games, the Bobcats had scored five goals and allowed four. The five-goal showing against Helix matched Sage Creek's entire offensive output from those first two contests combined.
Sage Creek's next confirmed matchups against Helix are scheduled for Oct. 16 and Oct. 17, according to MaxPreps head-to-head data. Game times and locations for those contests have not been announced.
