Sage Creek High School students can earn college credit starting Monday, Sept. 14, through four fully online courses offered in partnership with MiraCosta College.
The Carlsbad Unified school posted the 2026-27 dual enrollment offerings on Wednesday, Aug. 26. Two courses begin Sept. 14 and run through Saturday, Dec. 12: Introduction to Sociology (SOCI C1000) and Human Relations in Business (BUS 136). Both are taught online by MiraCosta College professors.
Two more courses follow in spring 2027, starting Monday, March 22: Contemporary Social Problems (SOC 102) and Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management (BUS 130). The school's announcement says those spring courses count toward a new Social Entrepreneurship Certificate, a program listed under MiraCosta's Business Administration department.
The credits appear on a student's high school transcript and do not count against the district's 40-credit cap, according to the announcement.
Program background
A November 2025 MiraCosta Board of Trustees presentation described the Sage Creek partnership as a non-CCAP (College and Career Access Pathways) agreement, with discussions underway to transition to a formal CCAP dual enrollment agreement. That presentation listed a two-course business pathway, a two-course sociology pathway, and a biotechnology course for biomedical students.
Omar Jimenez started as MiraCosta's Dual Enrollment Program Manager on Sept. 22, 2025, according to the same presentation. The college's overall dual enrollment success rate in 2024-25 was 85.6 percent across 1,185 enrollments.
The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce noted in an Aug. 1 article that MiraCosta's partnership with Carlsbad Unified strengthens the local talent pipeline by letting high school students earn transferable college credit while exploring career pathways.
What families need to know
Students interested in enrolling for fall must fill out an interest form through the Sage Creek website. Classes begin Sept. 14, and the school has not published a registration deadline, so families should submit the form promptly.
