Carlsbad Police and the nonprofit Richness of Giving will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser at Magee Park on Sept. 19 to raise money for the annual Shop with a Cop program.

The event, called "Pancakes with a Purpose," runs from 8 a.m. to noon at 258 Beech Ave. Presale meal tickets cost $10 per person. Day-of tickets are $12.

Shop with a Cop pairs children in need with law enforcement officers each December for a day of holiday shopping. The program has operated across San Diego County since 1994, according to Carlsbad Village Association event listings. Each year, more than 300 officers from over 30 agencies spend the day with children selected from local schools, including a shopping trip to Target.

Three Carlsbad Village restaurants are helping prepare the breakfast: Señor Grubby's, Mas Fina Cantina and Kona Craft Café. The meal includes pancakes, eggs, sausage or bacon, fruit, coffee from Baba Coffee and homemade orange juice from Barons Market. Handel's Ice Cream will serve cones, and Chick-fil-A Carlsbad West will hand out chicken minis. The Chick-fil-A Cow mascot will also make an appearance.

Beyond breakfast, the Carlsbad Police Department plans a K9 demonstration and will display a SWAT BearCat armored vehicle, a vintage police car and the department's Beach Polaris. Army and Navy Academy cadets will present the colors, and live music is scheduled throughout the morning.

The Scripps Injury Prevention Team will offer free youth helmets and fittings. The Boys & Girls Club will run games for children, and Frontwave Arena will bring giveaways.

A silent auction and opportunity drawing give attendees additional ways to support the program.

The Lund Team is the event's first-time title sponsor, according to the Carlsbad Village Association. Richness of Giving, a Carlsbad-based nonprofit focused on feeding, sheltering and educating children, co-hosts the event alongside the police department.

Tickets are available online through GoFundMe. The Shop with a Cop holiday outing takes place each December, though a specific 2026 date has not been announced.
